There will always come a time when you look at your house and you’ll say, “I think we need to have something done to the _______ .” That’s just the way our minds work. Humans have this built in desire to improve stuff. Most often than not, even though nothing needs improving. But often times it’s out of necessity. Either theirs a new baby coming home or your parents have to move in for one reason or another.
“Prevent a fire by hiring a professional to clean out your dryer vents.” Those are the words that keep echoing in my mind while I was looking at the blown out dryer which I had my neighbor “fix” for free. All the while my husband was hitting his head on the bedroom door frame repeating, “Why do you always go for the freebies!”
During the times when you have to have something fixed or renovated at home, it’s best to stick to the professionals. Budget is always an issue but you have to think of the long term. A balance of “how much” and “how well” should always be achieved. Most home owners would rather settle for the cheaper alternative. Cheap usually means you’ll have to pay more later on. Cheap also means that instead of being able to host a home party in peace you’ll have to have the guests leave early because the roof is leaking or that the toilets have gone nuts.
When choosing a contractor, plumber, carpenter or choosing the tools and materials needed for home improvement or repair always be sure to check that they are recommended. Nowadays it’s easy to do that. Just log on to the internet and check the credential of the contractor or check the reviews for the materials and tools that you’ll need. When doing this always keep in mind to check several reviews. Don’t settle for checking one and immediately go for the service or product if the reviews are positive. Sometimes the first article or site that you go to will be the “official” site or the site that the product or service had made for them. This will most often than not give you a biased view of them. Check several links that you’ve Googled just to be sure.
Remember that Going for Cheap will eventually mean your Going for Broke.
